Project Leader Ray Backstrom I am a retired Marine Master Sergeant. My interest in Iwo Jima started in 1992 with a visit to Iwo Jima, just before retiring from the Corps. While going back to school, I was able to turn Iwo Jima into several course projects, and eventually into a thesis topic, which led to this web site. Each year I have tried to add a little bit more, last year was the KML files, the goal for this next year was going to be the 5th Amphibious Corps reports, and rosters if I could find a way to serve them, along with some vector based PDF maps of the battle.
Webmasters E.Kasey Kasemodel I am part of a technology/internet consulting company located in Dexter, Michigan. ( APIN ) I am willing to help with all aspects of technology to help support/improve the work started by Raymond C Backstrom. My connection to this event was via Don Kasemodel , a Marine in the 3rd Division who died on D+21. Don was brother to Robert E, my father. Jeff Kalman I enlisted in the US Army, serving overseas for several years as a combat engineer squad leader. Upon completing my enlistment, I returned to Michigan to attend Eastern Michigan University, where I earned my B.S. and received my commission as a military police officer from Army ROTC. I then went back on active duty to complete military police training and the US Army Airborne School. As an Army Captain, I held positions as platoon leader, operations officer, and company commander, again, serving in the US and overseas. During this time, I had the privilege to ride on a US Army Equestrian Team, training in the United Kingdom with the Queen's Household Cavalry, and also to perform many demonstrations of cavalry and mounted weapons skills. After leaving the military, I have also spent a year as a mounted police officer in Livingston County.
